A year ago, to mark the 30-year anniversary of Community Care, which was founded in 1985 by Jean E. Langenbach and friends, more than 90 celebrants, including board members, agency staff, political leaders, friends and family of Jean Langenbach, and clients and supporters of Community Care joined for a party at Romito’s Maltese Room on Sunday afternoon, April 12.
The festivities included a keynote speech by Brian M. Duke, former Secretary of Aging for Pennsylvania, a roast and lauding of Jean, a brief video, music, dancing and raffles. In honor of 30 years of quality services, including homecare, transportation and training, and with a view to the next 30 years, Community Care received citations, resolutions and a personal note from U.S. Representative Brendan F. Boyle, Philadelphia Councilman Bobby Henon, Mayor Michael A. Nutter, State Representative John P. Sabatina Jr. (now State Senator), former State Senator Mike Stack (now Lt. Governor), and U.S. Senator Robert P. Casey Jr.
The event raised $18,330. Generous funding came from the following donors: Leading Sponsors, Citizens Bank and Robert K. Lockyer; Major Sponsors, John & Shirley Neff and Blue Grass Plaza Associates; Roast of Jean sponsors, Pennsylvania Homecare Association and Thackray Crane Rental; and Dessert Sponsor, Joseph & Beryl Stine. Silent auction donors were Johnson Kendall Johnson, David & Laine Woodhead, Edward & Betty Sparlow, and Jean E. Langenbach. Basket auction donors included Dianne Ferraro, Glen Foerd Conservation Corp., Kathleen Golden, Klipper’s Hair, Jean Langenbach, Mr. & Mrs. Walter O. Laub, Cathy Morrone, Salon Ambience, Starbucks and Sandy Watkins.
Our founder, Jean E. Langenbach, our administrator, Nancy H. Steinke, our dedicated board of directors, and the Community Care staff send a big “Thank You!” to everyone involved in this celebratory fund-raiser for their spiritual and financial support.
